Alliteration

Repetition of speech sounds in a sequence

Ex. Langland's Piers Plowman

In a summer season, when soft was the sun.

Consonance

Repetition of a sequence of two or more consonants, but with the change in intervening vowels like live- love.

Ex.

"Out of this house"—said rìder to reader,

"Yours never will"—said farer to fearer,

"They're looking for you" said hearer to honor,

As he left them there, as he left them there.*

Assonance

Repetition of identical or similar vowels, especially in stressed syllables.

Ex.

Thou still unravished bride of quietness,

Thou foster child of silence and slow time.
