He divides plot to 2 parts-

1 Complications

2 Its unravelling or denouement


Complications include all the action from the beginning to the point where there is turn in events. (rising action)

Denouement extends from the turning point to the end. (falling action)


Simple and complex plot-


Simple plot- no puzzling situations.

Complex plot- peripeteia and anagnorisis

Peripeteia- reversal of situation

Anagnorisis- recognition/ discovery

A perfect tragedy should have a complex plot.
