Bowdlerize

To delete the parts of the literary works which are considered as indescent.

Thomas Bowdler was the person who edited or tidied the Shakespearean works and named it as Family Shakespeare in 1818. This term is attributed to him.

In the words of Bowdler, "whatever is unfit to be read by a gentleman in a company of ladies."

Shakespearean plays, Gulliver's Travels (1726) and the Arabian Nights are bowdlerized.
